Adult skating is growing in popularity and more and more clubs offer
a fun, learning and social opportunity to this segment of the population.
Adults participate in CanSkate and the STARSkate program as well as on
synchronized skating teams. Adult Championships currently provide opportunities
to adult skaters to experience the challenge of a competition in a social
environment. Skate Canada is currently expanding its programming in this
area.
The Skate Canada Adult Skating Commission has formed an Adult Skating
Advisory, comprised of current adult skaters, evaluator/judges and coaches
to assist the Commission in the preparations for additional adult test
and competitive opportunities. Future plans include the development of
a set of adult standards for the Skate Canada Test Program, standard competition
categories and several new competition venues to include both Canadian
and American adult skaters. Read Adult
Test Standards - General Standards & Principles, Draft 2 (August
2002) (pdf 137KB). Give us your feedback on the proposed standards
by filling out the Adult
Test Standards Feedback Form.

Adult Competition Technical Information
Teen/Adult
Our Teen/Adult program is a recreational learning to skate, through to advanced program designed for
teens and adults. It is also a program where one may begin or enhance their skills. The classes are
broken up into groups based on skill level. This program is open to all teens/adults who wish to
learn to skate, enhance their skating ability and pursue their enjoyment in the sport.
What adult instructional programs are available to clubs?
Basically, all of them! CanSkate, the STARSkate program, CanPowerSkate,
and CanSynchroSkate are designed for use by all populations. The program
skills are exactly the same, only the method of delivery changes. For
example, a coach would not teach a skill the same way to a child as they
would an adult. Language and terminology as well as the learning activity
would be different. Pages 5-13 to 5-19 of the CanSkate Technical Manual
provide some good examples of the teaching and learning methods geared
to different age groups.
So as you can see there are many advantages, for everybody, when adult
programming is included on a club's schedule. Now is the time to get ready.
The adult population is growing - is your club prepared to take advantage?
